STRATEGIC PLAN OBJECTIVE: . All schools will offer all students the opportunity to learn the core curriculum. . Ensure that all students receive a foundation of academic skills. . All students needing intervention or assistance will receive it. . Ongoing communication and networking must occur around the issues of curricular planning and implementation.
CORE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: . The core program consists of Humanities Core (Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies) and Sciences Core (Math, Science, Health), visual and performing arts electives, and physical education. . Commitment is to provide all students access to a challenging comprehensive curriculum where all can succeed. . Commitment to foster smaller learning environments which nurture relationships with peers, significant adults and the larger world. . Commitment to provide a network of support that promotes the development of physically and emotionally healthy lifestyles. . Students will be heterogeneously grouped. . All identified ELL students will be served by CLAD trained staff and support from bilingual instructional assistants. All identified Special Education students are supported through RSP/SDC programs at the site.
ASSESSMENT DATA: . A variety of sources will be used to gather data on student performance. . 1997 Terra Nova standardized testing data show fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students at the four elementary schools who will attend Bohannon have reading and language scores that average below the 5O percentile. Two of the feeder schools report averages below the 40 percentile. Math scores are below the 40 percentile in three of the four schools. Two of the schools report total math scores below the 30 percentile. . No attendance/discipline records are available, as the school has not opened yet. . Parent/student surveys will be done in the spring of 1999. . Student grade percentages will be reported in the spring of 1999.
STATEMENT OF NEED AS A RESULT OF DATA ANALYSIS: . There is a need to improve student performance in Reading, Language, and Spelling and enhance student ability to comprehend, interpret, and analyze text in the content areas. . There is a need to improve student performance in math comprehension and math operations.
SITE OBJECTIVES: . Students will increase their understanding of reading and language arts as demonstrated by an overall 5% NCE growth in Reading and Language scores on the new state standardized test. . Students will use the writing process effectively as measured by an overall 5% improvement on the district 8th grade performance assessment.
