Mission Statement
 

The mission of the San Lorenzo Adult School is to promote lifelong learning.  The Adult School's program is dynamic in its offering of classes to the community. Since the needs, interests and desires of adults are as varied as their abilities, attitudes and backgrounds, the Adult School curriculum and methodology are varied and flexible. The staff offers encouragement and assistance to each student in fulfilling his/her educational needs and endeavors.

The San Lorenzo Adult School is committed:

•To provide educational experiences for adults in need of basic academic skills at both elementary and secondary levels.
•To enable individuals to be employable, upgrade current job skills and train or retrain for new occupations.
•To help individuals understand development and functioning of government institutions, including the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
•To enable non-English speaking persons to learn English language skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing for the purposes of helping them to adapt to life in California.
•To provide the increasing numbers of older adults the opportunity for personal growth and development, community involvement and self-maintenance skills.
•To provide adults with disabilities the opportunity to maximize their potential in social, educational and occupational areas.
•To enable adults to enhance the quality of life through health and safety education programs emphasizing their physical, mental and emotional well being.
•To provide programs in home economics which help adults improve their ability to manage the economic aspects of their home lives.
•To provide educational programs that help adults be better parents and improve the quality of family life.
•To play a dramatic role in providing community service classes which encourage adults to explore individual interests.
•To provide counseling and guidance services for adults so they may plan and select those educational experiences which will effectively help them achieve their goals.
•To provide the opportunity for high risk youth to make up deficiencies, gain job training and complete high school graduation requirements.
