Mrs. SANTILLAN
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
Bessie Stanley, 1905
(Often inaccurately attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson)

A Note From The Principal
*Fifteen Reasons to Love Education*
*Knowing you made a difference *Creating a better tomorrow *Working with company * Using your mind, heart, and soul everyday *Seeing a student’s face light up *A sense of accomplishment *Shaping lives, dreams, and futures *Each day can be an adventure *Feeling proud of being a role model *Summer vacation *Recognizing that your job is important, even on the “bad” days.
I found this list in a little booklet on quotes about education. No author was listed. As I read it, I found that I could add many more reasons that I love being an educator but the purpose of this piece I will settle for these fifteen.
Each member of the Colonial Acres faculty and staff consider their jobs to be a calling, compelling them to come to work everyday and make a difference. Even if only one child goes home with something that inspires her to want to know more, do more, read more, volunteer more, care more, then that child’s teacher knows that she made a difference that day. As educators with many years of experience, we continue to have “hope” that our efforts affect the world in a positive, productive way on a daily basis. It is that hope which makes us show up everyday.
