School Consolidation Advisory Committee
Studying School Closings, Mergers & Consolidation
The San Lorenzo Unified School District (SLZUSD) is examining ways to rightsize the District’s facilities in light of declining enrollment. It is forming a school district advisory committee, called the School Consolidation Advisory Committee, to meet during the 2026-27 school year. If you would like to participate and are qualified, we invite you to apply to be a member.
A fillable application form (PDF) is available to download, at right, and return via email or in person at the District Office.
Purpose of the Committee
The purpose of the advisory committee is to review and analyze the school sites within the District and determine which might be closed and/or consolidated if not needed for school purposes. The committee will then present a report to the Board of Education recommending school sites for school closure and/or consolidation. This is an important task, and the District is looking for highly qualified, capable, and committed individuals to serve on the Committee.
Committee Membership
Under California law (Education Code Section [EC §] 17387 et seq.), the Committee must have at least seven (7) members and no more than 11 members, though for the District’s purposes, the School Consolidation Advisory Committee will be expanded to be comprised of 20 members in an effort to include a broader cross-section of community members who have an interest in and may be affected by school closures.
At a minimum, the committee must contain persons who can be representative of each of the following:
- Business community, such as store owners, managers, or supervisors (2 members)
- Landowners or renters, with preference for representatives of neighborhood associations (2 members)
- Certificated staff (2 members)
- Classified staff (4 -- 2 CSEA members and 2 SEIU members)
- Administrators (2 administrators)
- Families of students (4 members)
- Students (2 members)
- Members selected at the discretion of the Board of Trustees (2 members)
