Leave of Absence
To ensure your well-being, it's important to understand when time off transitions from sick leave to a formal leave of absence:
For Certificated Employees:
If you're absent for more than 3 consecutive days, it qualifies as a leave of absence. In such cases, we kindly request a note from your healthcare provider.
For Classified Employees:
If you're absent for more than 5 consecutive days, it's considered a leave of absence. We appreciate your cooperation in providing a note from your healthcare provider in these circumstances.
Under all collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and Board Policy 4300 for administrators, you may utilize up to 10 days of Personal Necessity (PN) annually for specific contract/policy-defined reasons only. This time is deducted from your sick leave accruals. Please note that PN requires reporting in Frontline/Aesop. If your sick leave accruals are exhausted, PN may not be available.
SEIU and SLEA members have Personal Necessity forms available in their respective CBAs. These forms should be completed, approved by your supervisor, and submitted to OPEN for processing.
If your absence extends beyond 3 days (for certificated employees) or 5 days (for classified employees), please reach out to Donald Brophy (A - M) at [email protected] or Neal Elgar (N - Z) at [email protected]. They will assist you in coordinating your leave.
